Labels for New Zealand craft breweries
The 440 ml can above is the start of a label for a beer you sell. Sign in with a free account – it comes with Plus until 31 December – and Brewlabel helps you with what has to be on it in New Zealand, the barcode and the file for the print shop.
Same Food Standards Code, Kiwi details
New Zealand labels beer under the Food Standards Code it shares with Australia. Review goes through the alcohol as “5.2% alc/vol”, standard drinks, allergens (beer needn’t name its barley or wheat, but lactose and sulphites must be there), best before, a lot number and a street address in New Zealand or Australia, and checks that the volume’s figures are at least 2 mm tall.
The pregnancy warning, the right size
Since the end of July 2023, beer above 1.15 % sold in New Zealand carries the pregnancy warning. Brewlabel places FSANZ’s mark at the size the can’s volume needs, with its pictogram, words and border, keeps 3 mm clear round it, and Review tells you when something comes too close.
No deposit mark – unless you ship to Australia
New Zealand has no container deposit scheme, so your label carries no refund mark. Selling across the Tasman too? Switch the country to Australia and Review asks for what Australia wants on top: the 10c refund mark beside the barcode and where the beer was made.
Barcode and print file
Type your EAN and the barcode is drawn at a size shop scanners read; Review warns you if it gets too small on the can. The print file has one label per page at its exact size, with bleed, crop marks and a cut line.
